What do dinosaurs, lasers, and crowdfunding have in common? Only that Pax Modern is building one of the very cool Lasersaur’s open source lasercutters for a Kickstarter project! If you haven’t heard of Lasersaur, it’s an open source project developed by Nortd Labs of NYC to create a safe, highly capable lasercutting machine that could be built by crazy people who do those sorts of things. Our plan is to build the frame, sort out the code, and basically have a running laser cutter, minus the laser, by mid-June. We’d then like to turn to the amazing Kickstarter community to raise funding for the laser to complete the machine. We’ll be offering some very cool laser cut home accessories designed by our designers and manufactured by yours truly.
We’re doing this project because we believe that technology like this opens doors for people to get things made. We have incredible designers with great ideas lined up who just need someone with a little bit of experience and a lot of machine to manufacture for them. We have found this to be especially true in central Nebraska where there is a void of manufacturing technology. We’re also super excited about building this machine from the ground up since it will expand our knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of what this machine can do.
So, if you’re interested, check back to this blog often. We’ll have a lot of photo updates on the build progress with more detailed photos on our Flickr page. And, you’ll be one of the first to know when you can get in on the Kickstarter excitement!
